To realize the vision, the project includes the development and operation of three specialized recycling units, each targeting a different waste stream to maximize recovery and value creation:
• Unit 1: a plastic recycling facility that converts waste into export-grade pellets.
• Unit 2: an organic waste processing facility that produces high-quality compost for agriculture and food production.
• Unit 3: a medical waste incinerator that manages hazardous waste and mitigates public health risks.

Through targeted recycling technologies and localized processing, the initiative aligns with Khartoum State’s broader strategy and sustainable development goals, waste management and circular economy practices.

Located in West of Karari Municipality, the facilities tackle different and major urban streams of waste, enhancing service delivery, reducing landfill dependency, contributing to environmental preservation, economic revitalization, and public health protection.

Initiated by Khartoum State and managed by a dedicated governmental team, the project is publicly funded and implemented under local institutional oversight.
It is currently operational, with all three units established to serve as a pilot for wider circular economy adoption in Sudan.
