Urban Landscaping Design and Beautification Execution project addresses Bahrain’s need for sustainable development and urban agriculture.1

The project is envisioned to “Green Bahrain” and based on the objectives of Bahrain’s government to improve urban greening through public-private partnerships.

The project’s core objectives included designing landscapes for four main highways, beautifying ten kilometers of roads, adding twenty hectares of new green space, and developing recommendations to further improve existing areas. Additionally, the project sought to enhance landscape design services within the Ministry, publicize the annual Bahrain International Garden Show (BIGS), and support the rehabilitation efforts at the Budaiya Experimental Nursery.2

To implement the project’s objectives, both strategic and physical plans were developed by offering designs and implementation services for roundabouts, median strips, and highway junctions. Further, the project involved developing landscaping schemes, providing project supervision, facilitating cooperative exchanges in landscape technologies, and assisting the Bahraini government in enhancing urban living environment.3

The primary beneficiaries of the Urban Landscaping Design and Beautification Execution Project in Bahrain include the residents of Bahrain, who benefit from quality green spaces and enhanced urban experience. Additionally, aesthetic and environmental improvements benefit both tourists and local visitors.

The Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning led the strategic planning and development of the project. The project then received significant international support, with implementation carried out by Taiwan Technical Mission in collaboration with Bahrain’s Ministry of Works. It was funded by the International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF).4
