Al Nilein park is a public urban park, the first of its kind in Sudan,1 located on Nile Street in east Khartoum city, the capital of Sudan.2 The park is named “Al Nilein” due to its location at the convergence of the two Niles rivers (the Blue Nile and the White Nile).3 It serves as a public space for residents, offering a variety of activities dedicated to recreation for visitors of all ages.4 The project is part of the city program to support development and tourism projects in Khartoum State5 that aim to develop and enhance service networks to achieve balanced development across all administrative units and surrounding areas.6 7

The project aims to enhance the livability for residents of Khartoum state, by establishing a modern site devoted to recreation and entertainment.8 9 It also seeks to improve the city’s infrastructure and basic facilities, and is viewed as a significant addition to not only to the locality and the state of Khartoum but also to neighboring states.10
The project covers a total area of 30,000 square meters,11 and encompasses a range of recreational, environmental, social, and sports activities. Specifically, the project includes the following components:12 13

The park’s public and recreational areas attract visitors, primarily residents from surrounding neighborhoods, and families seeking relaxation and play areas for their children.14 The project also attracts athletes as it includes sports courts.15
The project was initiated by the municipality of Khartoum.16 The master plan was designed and implemented by the Turkish company Sour.17 The project was funded through self-financing from local resources of the municipality of Khartoum.18 It was inaugurated in 2018 by the municipality and is open to the public every day of the week with free entrance.19
