Gateway Complex is a major mixed-use large urban development project located near Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu.1

It is envisioned as a “Somali-led initiative and a landmark,” master-planned development poised to transform the capital city and contribute to Somalia’s national development.2

The project aims to improve the quality of life for residents and position Mogadishu as a regional hub for business, healthcare, tourism and urban living.3 4 It also seeks to catalyze economic growth, promote urban renewal,5 enhance trade, and attract international investment, thereby setting new development benchmarks for Somalia. 6

To implement the vision, a single master-planned destination is developed, incorporating a balanced mix of uses, integrating residential, commercial and recreational uses, serving diverse urban needs. It integrates a wide range of urban functions, residential, business, healthcare, education, business, and leisure that enhances Mogadishu’s regional competitiveness and livability.7 Key components of the project include: 8 9

  • Modern hotel with 261 guest rooms and 60 hotel apartments, managed by international hospitality brand Rotana

The project is initiated by the Somali Government,10 on a land rented from the Central Bank of Somalia.  Construction started in December 2024,11 with an estimate cost of approximately $400 million,12 funded by Premier Bank and Riverside Holding in collaboration with international investors.13 14

The project will generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs during both the construction and operational phases, creating opportunities for local businesses and enhancing Mogadishu’s economic and social landscape.15
