Djibouti New City is a large urban development project located in the Gabod district of Djibouti’s capital.1 The new city is envisioned to “achieve a unique lifestyle”,2 and it is part of Djibouti 2035’s vision that aims to modernize the city’s infrastructure, enhance economic growth, and improve overall livability.3 i

The project seeks to address challenges of outdated and overburdened infrastructure by introducing a modern, integrated urban framework.
Its core objectives include:

  • Providing high-quality housing solutions, including affordable residential options4
  • Upgrading infrastructure to support sustainable urban growth5
  • Enhancing economic opportunities through business and commercial hubs6
  • Preserving Djibouti’s cultural heritage while promoting social integration and community development.7

To implement the project’s objectives, a master plan was proposed extending along an area of 125,000 square kilometers.8 This master plan features a diverse mix of residential, administrative, commercial and recreational spaces. Specifically, it includes the following components:9 10

  • Residential areas, comprising diverse housing options: 80 apartments and 215 villas
  • Commercial district, featuring 60 retail shops
  • Recreational and sports facilities, including parks and public spaces
  • Business parks, including offices and corporate hubs
  • Green spaces, promoting sustainability and urban aesthetics
  • Cultural centers, showcasing city’s heritage
  • Educational facilities, including schools and learning centers.

Djibouti New City aims to be an eco-friendly, self-sufficient development, incorporating sustainable infrastructure to ensure reliable energy solutions as well as a stable water supply system.

The project is initiated by Alhamdani for Real Estate Investments, in collaboration with the Djibouti government.11 The master plan was designed and is under implementation by Alhamdani for Real Estate Investments.12
