Golden Jubilee Walkway is an urban green project in the Wilayat of Al Seeb in Muscat,1 the capital of the Sultanate of Oman.2 The project consists of constructing a green walkway connecting the districts of Mawaleh, Al Hail and Al Khoud,3 equipped with various facilities to sustain the residential and commercial neighborhoods.4 The project is part of the national program “Oman Vision 2040”.5 i

The project aims to achieve three primary objectives: (1) enhance the quality of life for residents by establishing a public space devoted to recreation, entertainment, and outdoor activities;6 (2) provide facilities that strengthen the social fabric while prioritizing initiatives that promote sports and physical health within the community; and (3) enhance the aesthetic quality of the area, revitalizing commercial and developmental activity in the region. It seeks to optimize the use of the site to serve the community, aligning with suitable activities and events that bring tangible benefits to both individuals and society.7

The project extends over an area of 84,400 square meters,8 passing through neighborhoods, commercial establishments, and prominent landmarks.9 It is bordered at the north by the Meizon Street, at the east and west by the Southern Mawaleh neighborhood, and at the south by the central market for vegetables and fruits, along with the adjacent commercial areas.10 It is designed to provide visitors and residents with recreational, environmental, social, sports, and economic activities. It will serve as a perfect place to stroll, relax, and organize picnics.11 Specifically, the project includes the following components:12 13

  • A pedestrian walkway with a length of 1,972 meters.
  • A bicycle path with a length of 1,972 meters and a 3 m width.
  • Three yards (PLAZA) for rest and hiking.
  • Green spaces along 38,250 square meters with diverse types of flowers and shade trees provide a natural environment for outdoor activities.
  • Two sites equipped for physical sports.
  • Two areas for children’s games.
  • 75 canopies for the visitors.
  • 140 parking lots for vehicles.
  • Restaurants, cafes, and shops.

The park’s public and recreational areas attract different types of visitors, particularly individuals from surrounding neighborhoods, residents, and families seeking relaxation and play areas for their children. The project also attracts athletes due to the presence of the sports trails and courts. The project will be designed to complement the surrounding natural elements.14
The project is initiated and funded by Muscat Municipality.15 16 The project has been under implementation since 2022 by the local companies, including Saif Al Harasi.17
