Umm Al Seneem Park is a public urban park1 project established to serve as a recreational destination for residents and tourists of Doha2 3. The project was awarded a Guinness World Record for the longest air-conditioned out door jogging and walking path4. It aligns with the Public Works Authority’s (Ashglal)i Strategic plan for the humanization and beautification of cities. The project aims to promote a healthy5 lifestyle, and encourages people of all ages6 to maintain their health and wellbeing7 through walking, jogging and running8.

To implement the project’s objectives, a master plan9 for the park was proposed which extends along a 0.13 square kilometer site in Al Rayyan Municipality10, designed to accommodate 3,000 visitors per day11 12. The park is planned to be accessible and inclusive, as it is compliant with design regulations for accessibility. Additionally, the park is designed to provide visitors and residents with social, environmental, recreational, and sports facilities13. Specifically, the park includes 88,400 square meters of green spaces with 912 trees, a 1.143 kilometer air-conditioned outdoor pedestrian and jogging path14 15, a cycling track along the path, three exercise areas equipped with fitness equipment and two fitness box with free fitness classes led by renowned instructors, two children’s play zones, along with games dedicated to children with special needs, 7 food kiosks and 40 bicycle stands16. It also includes facilities such as water coolers, male and female prayer areas, a bike rental area, two family seating areas, and toilets17.

In terms of environmental sustainability, the air-conditioned path and fitness boxes rely significantly on renewable energy through the use of solar panels18. Additionally, the air-conditioned path consists of long green walls in order to reduce the pressure on artificial cooling and maintain optimum temperatures19. Plantation in the park is primarily of native species, such as wild Ghaf, Samar, and Sidr that aims, that aim to provide shade and reduce wind, dust, heat, air pollution, and noise in urban areas20.
The project was initiated by Ministry of Municipality in Qatar and inaugurated in 202221. The ministry specified a plan for the project which was proposed and implemented by Public Works Authority (Ashghal) in coordination with the Public Parks Department of the Ministry of Municipality22. The park is open to the public all days of the week with free entrance, and it provides two parking areas with 378 parking spaces23 24.
