AUDI is participating in the Arab Land Initiative meeting in Cairo

29 May 2024

The Arab Urban Development Institute (AUDI) participated in the meeting of the Reference Group for the Arab Land Initiative, held in Cairo on May 29-30, 2024, at the Arab League headquarters. The meeting was attended by a group of international and regional organizations, public administrations, universities, research institutions, and specialized associations from various parts of the Arab region.

The meeting included presentations and discussions of the work carried out by the Arab Land Initiative and deliberated on the next steps and projects with the members of the Reference Group. It also addressed the role that AUDI could play within the initiative, in collaboration with the initiative coordinators to highlight notable Arab experiences in urban land management and housing, by presenting them in AUDI’s initiatives, as well as reports on practices and policy briefs focusing on the role of planning and taxation tools in sustainable urban land management.

The initiative aims to build and share knowledge about the reality and challenges of land management in Arab countries, and to develop partnerships between institutions working in this sector, with the goal of enhancing the sector and making it more responsive to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It also seeks to support more inclusive land policies that are suitable for the needs of housing and sustainable urban development, and to address the challenges of climate change.
